Let’s say we want to fly to Bali straight from Manchester (UK). Here’s what Google Flights show for the flight cost.
It doesn’t really look too bad – around 600-700 poundsterling.
But oops – that requires 25.5 hours of travelling and 3 stops! Also, there are so many reasons I don’t like this. Firstly, the first leg is easyjet, so I’ll need to pay more for luggage. Secondly, Oman Air is not as popular to, say, Emirates, Etihad or Qatar Airways. Additionally, the layover times are very tight especially if I have to change airlines, because then I will have to transfer the luggage myself on each airport. That just sounds like a giant hassle. The next cheapest, as you can see is Emirates, which is £1,028. That’s expensive! But don’t fret….
If you fly first to Singapore, and then to Bali, you can get a ticket for £579 + 122 = £701! Okay, I hear you, you still have to change 2 times. Singapore though, has one of the best airport in the world. I mean, which airport exactly has a sunflower garden, its own WATERFALL, and a BUTTERFLY garden??? Yeah, I know. It is its own attraction for the locals. They do want you to do a stopover there, that they give a free Singapore tour if your transit is between 5.5-24 hours.
I actually did this actual hack for my own honeymoon, and we both really enjoyed visiting Singapore. The hack didn’t turn out to be a “chore”, in fact it was one of the highlight of our honeymoon.
