Bali, with its stunning beaches, dramatic cliffs, and vibrant culture, offers some of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll ever witness. Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or a nature enthusiast, watching the sun dip below the horizon in Bali is an experience you won’t soon forget. In this guide, we’ll take you on a journey to discover the best places to watch the sunset in Bali. Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom to find my favourite spot!

Basic

Firstly, basics. the sun sets on the west. So in that sense, you either have to :

  1. Be on the west coast of Bali
  2. Be at a place high enough that is facing the west!

Thankfully, as you see, Bali is an island with a west coast, and so have many beautiful places to see sunsets.

Tanah Lot Temple

Perched on a rocky outcrop along Bali’s southwestern coast, Tanah Lot Temple is not only a sacred Hindu site but also a prime spot to catch a mesmerizing sunset. As the sun sets behind this iconic sea temple, casting its warm hues over the ocean, you’ll be treated to a magical sight that’s truly unforgettable. I went just by myself, I don’t personally think you’d need a tour. There are some tours available though if you prefer, including this Tanah Lot Sunset Tour!

Jimbaran Beach

If you prefer to sink your toes into soft sand while savouring the sunset, look no further than Jimbaran Beach. This tranquil stretch of coastline is famous for its seafood restaurants, where you can enjoy a freshly grilled seafood feast right on the beach as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink.

Pro Tip: stay at hotels scattered around Jimbaran Beach to view sunsets from your hotel room! Luxury hotels in Bali are surprisingly affordable compared to other countries, due to the lower/cheaper currency. 1 USD is 16 THOUSAND Indonesian Rupiah at the time of writing, so yeah it can get you quite a lot.

Ayana Resort Bali

It feels like an overkill to include this as a separate heading. But I included it because it’s a little bit outside that I can’t categorise it as Jimbaran. This is a super popular place for people to stay over for honeymoon, and also to have dinner. Look at the views!

Campuhan Ridge Walk

For a more tranquil and off-the-beaten-path experience, head to the Campuhan Ridge Walk in Ubud. As it is in Ubud, this scenic walking trail winds through lush rice fields and gently rolling hills, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. A change from sunsets from the sea I suppose. As the sun sets behind the distant mountains, you’ll feel a sense of peace and serenity wash over you.

Potato Head Beach Club

For a more luxurious sunset experience, head to Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak. This trendy beachfront venue boasts a stunning infinity pool overlooking the ocean, perfect for lounging with a cocktail in hand as you watch the sky come alive with colour.

My Top Spot: Uluwatu

Imagine sitting on a cliff in Uluwatu, Bali, with the sun setting in front of you, painting the sky with gorgeous colours. Now, add to that scene the rhythmic chants and lively dances of the Kecak performers. It’s like watching a live painting come to life! These dancers, dressed in traditional clothes, tell stories through their moves, and it’s captivating. You’re not just witnessing a sunset; you’re experiencing a whole cultural adventure right there on the cliffs. It’s one of those moments that stay with you forever, where you feel connected to both nature and the rich traditions of Bali. Hence why this is my top spot!

Pro tip: get your ticket in advance because it is VERY popular and the queue is LONG. Also, once the place is open, get seated so you don’t have to stand for the entire performance.

Final Tips

– Arrive early to secure the best spot and avoid crowds.
– Don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture the magical moments.
– Check the sunset timing in advance to plan your visit accordingly.
– Respect the local customs and traditions, especially at sacred sites like Tanah Lot Temple.

In conclusion, Bali offers a plethora of stunning spots to watch the sunset, each offering its own unique charm and beauty. Whether you prefer a cliffside perch, a beachfront setting, or a tranquil hillside retreat, you’re sure to find the perfect spot to witness nature’s nightly spectacle in Bali. So grab your loved ones, pack a picnic, and get ready to be awe-inspired by Bali’s breathtaking sunsets!
