Hey there, fellow travelers! 🌴

I’m thrilled to share with you my ultimate 5-day itinerary for Bali! As an Indonesian, I’ve had the privilege of visiting this beautiful island multiple times, spending two weeks there twice in the last couple of years. (Helps that I’m Indonesian!) Each trip has been a unique adventure, full of incredible experiences and discoveries.

However, I know that not everyone has the luxury of spending weeks exploring Bali. Sometimes, all you have is a short window to immerse yourself in its beauty. Five days might seem like a brief stint, especially for a place as rich and diverse as Bali, but don’t worry! My goal is to give you a well-rounded overview of the island while ensuring you still get to relax and soak in the holiday vibe.

In this itinerary, I’ll take you through some of the must-see spots, hidden gems, and unforgettable activities that will make your short stay in Bali feel fulfilling and memorable. From the stunning beaches and iconic temples to lush rice terraces and vibrant local markets, you’ll get a taste of everything that makes Bali so enchanting. Don’t forget to check the ultimate guide on where to stay in Bali, which covers Nusa Dua and Ubud which we cover in this itinerary!

So, if you’re ready to make the most of your limited time on this magical island, let’s dive into this adventure together! Trust me, with a bit of planning and a lot of excitement, five days in Bali can be an amazing experience. 🌺

[If you have longer time, I highly suggest that you spend longer, please refer to my 10 days and 14 Days Itinerary.]

Day 1: Arrive + Uluwatu and Kecak Dance

Welcome to Bali! 🌞 If you can, try to catch an early flight so you can maximize your first day on the island. Touching down in the morning allows you to hit the ground running and squeeze in as much as possible. Upon landing, you’ll immediately feel the warm tropical breeze welcoming you. (Did you use the secret hack to grab cheap long-haul flights to Bali?) Grab your luggage and head to your accommodation. Since we’re aiming to make the most of our time, I recommend staying in the South Bali area—Kuta, Seminyak, or Jimbaran. These locations are close to the airport and offer a good mix of relaxation and vibrant nightlife. Check in, drop your bags, and maybe freshen up with a quick shower. Don’t linger too long, though—the island is waiting!

Uluwatu Temple and Kecak Dance

Get your Uluwatu and Kecak Dance ticket in advance and include the transfers option. Head straight to Uluwatu to start your Bali adventure with the famous Uluwatu Temple. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, this ancient sea temple offers breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. Wander around, take in the sights, and don’t forget to snap some photos. After soaking in the beauty of Uluwatu Temple, it’s time to hit the beach. Padang Padang Beach is a must-visit, with its crystal-clear waters and soft sandy shores. Spend some time swimming, sunbathing, or just relaxing. There’s nothing like the feeling of your toes in the sand and the sound of waves crashing.

As the sun begins to set, make your way back to Uluwatu Temple for the iconic Kecak dance performance. This traditional Balinese dance is performed at sunset, creating a mesmerizing spectacle against the backdrop of the ocean. The rhythmic chants of the dancers and the dramatic storyline will captivate you, providing a perfect end to your first day in Bali. After the Kecak dance, head to one of the nearby restaurants for a delicious Balinese dinner. Fresh seafood, nasi goreng (fried rice), and sate lilit (Balinese satay) are just a few of the local dishes you should try. Enjoy your meal as you reflect on the day’s adventures. Finally, return to your accommodation, ready to rest up for another exciting day. It’s been a whirlwind start, but this is just the beginning of your incredible Bali journey.

Day 2: Watersports and Beach Day

What’s Bali without watersports? Tanjung Benoa is where you want to go for some watersports in Bali. Try jet skiing, parasailing, or banana boating. Watersports will typically happen in the morning, because in the afternoon the water level is low. When no boat can leave, then you can’t really do parasailing or a whole host of other activities. One thing I want to recommend is to skip Turtle Island if they try to offer you that. The turtles are not kept in good condition, and I personally don’t want to encourage people to treat animals poorly. The only legitimate Turtle Conservation place in Bali is in Serangan Island. It’s not too far from Tanjung Benoa but it’s not the same.

After the excitement, relax on one of Bali’s beautiful beaches, especially if you are feeling jet-lagged. Nusa Dua and Jimbaran have great spots with soft sands and clear waters. There’s nothing quite like lounging on the beach with a good book and refreshing coconut water.

In the evening after rush hour, travel to Ubud and check-in in your hotel, so you can start the next day early.

Day 3: Ubud One-Day Tour

Spend a full day exploring the best of Ubud with this all-inclusive tour, including lunch if you choose. (I would – it makes sense and saves me scrambling for food!) Start your adventure at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, where you’ll meet playful monkeys and explore ancient temples. Next, enjoy a scenic walk through the famous Tegallalang Rice Terraces, taking in the lush green landscapes. After that, visit the historic Ubud Palace and marvel at the beautiful Saraswati Temple nearby.

Wrap up your day with a visit to the Tegenungan Waterfall, a refreshing and picturesque spot. This tour covers all the highlights and ensures you experience the charm of Ubud. These places, especially the Tegallalang Rice Terrace and Tegenungan Waterfall, need car transport. Hence it is best to take all-inclusive tours so you don’t spend so much time working out the logistics and transport. Also, if you only have 5 days, you don’t have the time to visit all these on different days anyways, so best to have someone organise the trip.

Tegenungan Waterfall

Day 4: Batur and Tirta Empul

If you are a morning person, start your day early with a trek up Mount Batur to watch the sunrise with this tour. The hike is challenging but incredibly rewarding, with panoramic views of the volcano and surrounding landscape. Start your early morning journey hiking up Mount Batur, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the sunrise over the volcanic landscape. The trek is guided, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience as you ascend in the pre-dawn hours. Once at the summit, enjoy a light breakfast while soaking in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Batur. This tour offers an unforgettable combination of physical challenge and natural beauty, perfect for those seeking an adventurous and awe-inspiring start to their day. You’ll then enjoy the natural hot spring and visit coffee plantation afterwards.

I am definitely nowhere as dedicated, so I just went to the hot springs and chill there with this all inclusive tour that includes optional lunch. Instead of hiking up in the dark, we soaked in the rejuvenating Batur Hot Springs, where you can relax in the natural thermal waters with stunning views of Lake Batur. Next, visit the picturesque Taman Sari Waterfall, a hidden gem surrounded by lush greenery. We had our refreshing dip there, and the water is definitely cleaner than Tegenungan. I had an allergy reaction in Tegenungan, but not in Taman Sari. Then, we head to the sacred Tirta Empul Temple, known for its holy spring water where you can participate in traditional purification rituals. This tour offers a perfect blend of relaxation, natural beauty, and cultural experiences, ensuring a memorable day in Kintamani.

Day 5: Ubud to Jimbaran Beach Bliss and Departure

Rise and shine! It’s your last day in Bali, and we’re making the most of it. After a hearty breakfast in Ubud, check out of your accommodation and start your journey to Jimbaran. The drive takes about an hour and a half, so sit back and enjoy the scenic route as you pass lush landscapes and vibrant villages. Once you arrive in Jimbaran, you’ll instantly feel the laid-back beach vibe. Jimbaran is known for its pristine beaches and tranquil atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to relax on your last day.

Jimbaran Beach

Head straight to Jimbaran Beach and find a cozy spot to set up camp for the day. The soft, golden sands and clear blue waters are inviting and perfect for a leisurely day by the sea. Go for a swim, take a stroll along the shoreline, or simply lay back and soak up the sun. For lunch, treat yourself to a meal at one of the many beachfront warungs (small restaurants) or seafood cafes. Jimbaran is famous for its fresh seafood, so be sure to try some grilled fish or prawns. Enjoy your meal with your toes in the sand and the sound of the waves as your soundtrack.

As the day begins to wind down, find a good spot to watch the sunset. Jimbaran Beach is renowned for its stunning sunsets, and it’s the perfect way to bid farewell to Bali. The sky will transform into a canvas of vibrant colors, providing a breathtaking end to your beach day. For your final meal in Bali, indulge in a seafood feast at one of Jimbaran’s famous seafood cafes. These restaurants set up tables right on the beach, allowing you to dine under the stars with the sound of the ocean in the background. It’s a magical experience and a fitting end to your Balinese adventure. After dinner, it’s time to head to the airport for your journey home. As you board your flight, take a moment to reflect on the incredible memories you’ve made over the past five days.

Conclusion

As your five-day journey through Bali comes to an end, it’s clear that even a short trip to this island paradise can be incredibly fulfilling. From the cultural richness of Ubud to the serene beaches of Jimbaran, you’ve experienced a diverse range of what Bali has to offer. Every moment, whether exploring ancient temples, witnessing traditional dances, or simply relaxing on the beach, has contributed to an unforgettable adventure.

While five days might not seem like enough time to uncover all of Bali’s secrets, it’s a perfect introduction to the island’s magic. You’ve had a taste of the vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality that Bali is known for. I hope this 5 days Bali itinerary has inspired you to return and delve even deeper into the wonders of Bali. Until then, cherish the memories and the sense of peace that Bali brings, knowing that this is just the beginning of your journey with this enchanting island. Safe travels, and see you next time! 🌺
